Physical exercise profits (beneficial, pays dividends)
1Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things
1Corinthians 4:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you…?
The word aptly states that it is the will of God that we be in good health (physical prosperity inclusive of mental, emotional and psychological) just as it is HIS will that
we prosper financially, (covenant wealth: to be in a position to carry out His covenant which is the gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations of the world ) even as our
soul prospers (3John 2). Contrary to what some have propounded in the past, the Church is beginning to realize that been in good health is intrinsically linked to
living a full and abundant life and been able to fulfill your destiny. There has been an increase in health consciousness in christian circles and that is a good thing.
This is not to assert that bodily ailment and physical disabilities are a disqualification for service in the kingdom. We are not under the old covenant laws. However, it
must be noted that the principles of God transcend time. Whether it is the old or new, spiritual and physical or natural not prospering and been in good health as the
soul prospers has the potential and ability to impede a person from fulfilling their destiny in God on earth. You may not be disqualified but you will be greatly
impaired. Disobedience and lack of love for God will impair a believer’s ability to serve God and do His will just as lack of finances (poverty) and sickness has the
ability to impede you from fulfilling your dream . Jesus came to give us life in abundant measures and He lived an abundant life. As a carpenter, I believe that Jesus
was very physically fit (muscularly and cardiovascular) because of a healthy nutrition and the manual labor involved in His trade at a era when all the time redeeming
tools and amenities at our disposal were not available.
Sickness and all forms of physical diability is not God’s will. Jesus paid the price for our wellness. God is sounding the alarm and calling his people to a healthy
and fit lifestyle. Walking in the miraculous is not confined to the supernatural intervention of the divine when we are on the brink of disaster or have some dire needs
to be fulfilled. Walking in the miraculous is daily appropriating and enforcing by virtue of divine decree the merits of the cross. God has equipped us as believers
with The Holy Spirit and His Word, giving us the ability to live daily in the miraculous. The word says that God has given (past tense) us all things that pertain to this
life and godliness.
One of the things God gave us is our physical body. It is the home or house to your spirit, a legal requirement to live on planet earth. As a new creation in Christ your
body is now the temple of The Holy Spirit. The principle of the natural and then the spiritual or the 2nd born is prevalent through out the bible. Though we must not
displace the order of importance eternally when it comes to the tripartite nature of man, we must realize that spirit, soul and body are intrinsically connected and a
neglect of one will be at the detrimental of the other. If you study the epistles of Paul he often uses natural terminologies that evoke sports, wholeness and fitness to
emphasize spiritual truths. Could it be that Paul either by participation, association or observation became so schooled in these that he could use them to convey
spiritual truths? Paul lived under the governorship of the Roman Empire, a people that were known for their athleticism.
Since you are the temple of God does your temple reveal the disciplines of the word at work in your physical body? Physical exercise may profit/ benefit little as
written but the word little is used in contrast to spiritual exercise and eternity. Notice it doesn’t say that physical exercise has no benefits. In fact it has lots of benefits.
Please also note that it says that spiritual exercise is profitable unto all things. Your physical body is inclusive of all things. Spiritual exercise will not only release
godliness in you, and qualify you for the meat of the word (Hebrews 5:13-14) by virtue of exercise or use but also ingrain in you the disciplines necessary to propel
you to live a healthy and fit lifestyle. Simply stated if you are spiritually disciplined it is highly likely you will be physically disciplined about doing what it takes to keep
your body healthy and fit.
Jesus commanded us to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Without getting theological about this statement or postulating arguments
to contextual relevance, loving God with all the heart, soul mind and strength also means keeping the temple of His residence in a state that is healthy and fit. A total
disregard of the physical is sometimes (not always) a visual of internal spiritual realities. God is our healer. However, when He gave the Israelites commandments
during their trek across the desert it was inclusive of commandments and counsel on good nutritional habits (Exodus15 &Leviticus 11). The bible is full of principles
that are very beneficial to our purpose of coaching you in your fitness (muscular and cardiovascular) quest. These newsletters will be instructional, divers in its
content and motivational. Basically we will be teaching muscular and cardiovascular fitness from a scriptural standpoint. Lets examine some important principles
that will be beneficial to your pursuit.
