Vision: Psalms 29:13, Habakuk2: 2
Having an idea is one thing but having a vision is different. An idea is a thought that remains dormant but a
vision is a burning desire that is eventually translated into reality. Many times I have consulted with people
who want to get fit but have no goal. Without a goal (vision) you have nothing to aim for. The bible clearly
teaches that we must have a vision for the different components of our lives. What do you want to
accomplish? What/how do you want to look like or feel in the next 6 months? I remember many times as I
prepared for bodybuilding competitions I had to have a clear picture (a mental image) of what I wanted to look
like when I stood on stage with the other competitors. Then I had to write out a game plan to get me to my
destination. So many times I counsel people to keep a journal of their workout. The bible says to write down
the vision so that the runner can see it. Writing out your vision (what you would like to accomplished) will
enable you to chart your progress and keep you on track. There is a saying and it goes, “ a short pen is
better than a long memory.”

A plan
A plan is a road map on how you will accomplish your vision. It is called a strategy on how to get from where
you are to where you need or want to be. The fitness industry is filled with personal trainers, nutritionists,
instructional workout videos and dvd’s and inhome fitness equipments that are guerred to assist even the
most unschooled. Let me enlighten you on something Jesus said. It is called the principles of living one day at
a time. You can only accomplish your goal one day at a time.

Believe
I don’t believe you have to have a mountain size faith to get to your fitness goal. You may say but I am so out
of shape that it will take a miracle to get me to shape or I have tried everything I know to do. Jesus said if you
have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed you will say to the mountain to remove itself and be thrown into
the sea and it will obey. Having written down your goal, start. If you need a personal trainer to jump-start you
to your goal get one. I believe that many people give up on their fitness goal because they don’t
compartmentalize their goals. What I mean is taking a 6/1year goal and dividing it up into 6 or 12 small goals
for example. Instead of trying so hard to loose or gain 20lbs of fat/muscles in 6 months or a year why not aim
at loosing 2 pounds a week or gaining a pound of muscle every month. This is the principle of living one day
at a time. Getting all bent out of shape about tomorrow doesn’t help. You can do all things through Christ who
is your strength. Accomplishing small goals will keep your believe level high.

Building a memorial.
Many times when something significant happened to the Israelites God told them to build a memorial. The
purpose of a memorial is that it keeps your memory alive to victories accomplished and ensures hope for the
future else the prospect of giving up is a high possibility. Many times the Lord would tell the Israelites to
remember. Celebrate your little victories and you will eventually get to your ultimate victory. This is not to
suggest that once you arrive at your fitness goal you throw up the towel. No, because there is a phase of
fitness called maintaining and fine-tuning. If you have come this far you can finish the course. We believe in
you. All things are possible to those who believe and with God all things are possible.

Pray
It is so amazing how little many believers think of prayer when it comes to fitness. Do you know that God is
very interested in the minute things of our life? Yes God cares how you feel about yourself. Okay this whole
thing is about balance. We are not talking about been so obsessive about our looks that it becomes a thing of
vanity, an idol to the detriment of our spiritual walk. Jesus said whatsoever things you desire when you pray,
believe you receive and you shall have. What I want to stress here is that the things you pray for that are born
out of desire (passion) are the things you will follow through. So my question is “ how important is your fitness
goal to you? Do you want to get in shape so much so that you are willing to pay the price (Jesus said to sit
down and consider the cost) to get you to your destination? It is an established truth that God wants us to
prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers. With that burning desire then in your heart pray and if
don’t quit you will reach your fitness goal.
